For the 6th year in a row, the Wapato School Board of Trustees has received recognition from the State Council of Distinction of the Washington State Principals Association.
The Board of Directors has been recognized for many years for doing the right thing
The annual WSSDA Boards of Distinction program honors school boards that demonstrate effective use of Washington school board standards. The program honors school boards that demonstrate effective use of Washington school board standards. School officials say the standards promote research-based governance practices that lead to high levels of student and district achievement, and help close the opportunity gap.
The board, despite the challenges, continues to show leadership
Wapato School Board members include the President, Maria Erickson, the Vice President, Sarah Davina, Javier Vela, John Francisco and Lorenzo Alvarado.
According to a press release, “WSSDA Director of Leadership Development Tricia Lubach says that despite the historic challenges this year, school boards have shown remarkable leadership in bringing students back to learning by person in a safe and creative way. She added that the boards that are honored have developed unique approaches that reflect the needs of their students and families and are based on careful analysis of the data that indicated those needs. “
The award puts the board in line for another big recognition
Wapato Council’s selection as Council of Distinction also puts it in the running to be chosen as one of the Council of the Year in the state. Each year, WSSDA recognizes a board from each of its three categories of small, medium, and large school districts as Board of the Year. Last year, the Wapato Board of Directors was chosen as the Board of the Year in the Mid-Sized District category.
All Council of Distinction recipients will be recognized at an awards luncheon on November 19, day two of the WSSDA State Annual Conference to be held in Bellevue from November 18-20.
