Joan Laporta is back as Barcelona president, and we’re all set if his last term was anything.

The charismatic Barcelona-born lawyer last served as president for seven full seasons between 2003 and 2010, with the club winning four league titles and two Champions Leagues during this time.

We looked at the first starting XI during his initial presidency, a 1-0 away win at Athletic Bilbao in 2003, and compared him to the squad that celebrated the La Liga title victory. 2009-10 with a total of 99 points after fighting. Real Valladolid 4-0.

Victor Valdès – Victor Valdès

Such was the longevity of the goalkeeper at his childhood club, nearly 20 years of Valdes, from youth training to the senior squad, have seen six different presidents in charge of the club.

He has also played under six different managers since his debut in August 2002, and finally quit in the summer of 2014, as the Luis Enrique era began with two new faces competing for a place between the sticks with Marc-Andre ter Stegen finally winning over Claudio Bravo.

Michael Reiziger – Dani Alves

Part of Louis Can Gaal’s seminal Ajax squad, Reiziger reunited with his Dutch compatriot at Camp Nou in 1997.

He won back-to-back league titles in his first two years at the club, but another five trophy-less years would follow, as Barcelona entered the 2000s with a fallow period.

Former Ajax teammate Frank Rijkaard – with whom he started alongside the 1995 Champions League final, a famous 1-0 win over Milan – regularly used the right-back during his debut season in charge before being cleared to leave for Steve McClaren’s Middlesbrough in the summer of 2004.

Juliano Belletti, Damia and Gianluca Zambrotta appeared at right-back in the following years before Alves came to define the post, arriving in the same summer as Guardiola and winning 13 major honors in eight years of success at the club.

The signing of the Brazilian in 2008 was a real triumph for the Laporta presidency.

Carles Puyol – Carles Puyol

El Tiburon (‘The Shark’) will always enjoy legendary status in the only club he has ever represented.

Since his retirement in 2014, he remains a leading voice on all Barcelona issues, and the former center-half was seen voting in the 2021 presidential elections in Barcelona.

Puyol went on to congratulate Laporta – under whom he had the most successful years of his 15-year career – on his return to power.

Phillip Cocu – Gérard Pique

Part of a large Dutch contingent at the turn of the century, Cocu left alongside Reiziger, Patrick Kluivert and Marc Overmars in the summer of 2004, while Edgar Davids returned to Italy after a successful mid-season loan.

Barcelona didn’t earn a dime for either of them, but they helped make room for the arrival of Samuel Eto’o, Deco, Sylvinho and Ludovic Giuly.

Cuckold was the team’s captain often during his year in Rijkaard’s service, and although he served primarily as a midfielder, his versatility saw him move into center-back for the victory to Sam Mames. He scored the winner of the match on this occasion, putting himself after a cross from Ronaldinho.

Gerard Pique, 16, was still in the youth ranks at that time before spending four years at Manchester United. Laporta and Guardiola brought him back for £ 5million in the summer of 2008 – and the rest is history.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst – Eric Abidal

Van Bronckhorst made his La Liga debut in the Bilbao victory, having originally been on loan from Arsenal, which marked the start of his period of adjustment from midfielder to left-back.

A permanent move was sealed a year later, and two league titles and the Champions League quickly followed.

Abidal was signed to Lyon to replace him in the summer of 2007, and the French would become a mainstay of the Guardiola era. continue reading

Will the agreement with Kodak Pharma continue? http://louthonline.com/will-the-agreement-with-kodak-pharma-continue/ http://louthonline.com/will-the-agreement-with-kodak-pharma-continue/#respond Tue, 09 Mar 2021 10:56:50 +0000 http://louthonline.com/will-the-agreement-with-kodak-pharma-continue/

ROCHESTER, NY – Brighton Securities chairman George Conboy has said people buying Eastman Kodak stock right now could take the plunge.

What would you like to know

  • Brighton Securities chairman Geroge Conboy says it’s too early to know if Kodak will still get the $ 765million loan
  • Conboy predicts deal has become too political for next administration to materialize
  • Conboy believes the company will struggle to advance in the pharmaceutical industry without the loan

“Time will tell if the loan will take place,” Conboy said. “Time will tell if Kodak can do it. And time will tell if investors made a smart bet in buying these stocks. Far too early to know today.”

Even though the US International Development Finance Corp found no conflict of interest in its investigation, Conboy said there was no guarantee that the $ 765 million federal loan for the company to start manufacturing pharmaceutical products is always respected.

“If I were to read the tea leaves on this deal, I would suspect the loan has become political enough that a change in administration could mean the incoming administration has other priorities or chooses not to make the loan. .I wouldn’t bet my money this is going to happen, ”Conboy said.

When the deal was first announced in July, White House Trade Advisor Peter Navarro said it happened in “Trump’s time”, hailing it as a victory for the administration. Trump. That’s why Conboy thinks it’s become political.

Kodak CEO Jim Continenza said the company plans to move forward with its pharmaceutical business regardless of the outcome of the government’s plan. Conboy said he believes the company wouldn’t be able to do it without the loan.

“It would be great if Kodak could expand into this line of business,” said Conboy. “However, it will be difficult for them as a business to get the capital to do so unless they can get that loan. They don’t. Seems likely the market will provide the kind of capital. that Kodak needs for this business. ”

Finally, lawmakers are getting closer to a bipartisan $ 900 billion coronavirus relief deal it could give Americans hardest-hit the cash they need so badly – albeit less than many had hoped for.

Congress has until 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, December 19 to reach agreement on the long-awaited emergency relief plan that would have included direct payments of $ 600 to $ 700 per person; and improved unemployment benefits.

It’s not a done deal, but lawmakers have been quoted speaking optimistically this week about the possibility of a resolution before the weekend.

If the deal passes, politicians have said the stimulus check distribution could be implemented immediately, especially now that the IRS distribution tool is already in place from the last round of checks sent. in spring. Back in August, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the IRS could start processing checks “immediately” and issue the first batch within a week (at $ 50 million per batch).

But given what we know from the last round, exactly when the next raise check will appear in your current account depends on a few factors.

If the IRS has already registered your direct deposit information, you will likely be among the first groups to receive the money electronically. If you signed up for direct deposit with the IRS when you filed your 2018 and / or 2019 taxes – and your account information is the same – you’ll likely be in the foreground. With the CARES law, beneficiaries with up-to-date information received their payments within a few weeks.

Get the most out of your dunning check: If you don’t need your stimulus check to cover basic expenses, use it to set up an emergency fund in a high yield savings account, so you can earn a higher APY. the Marcus High Yield Online Savings by Goldman Sachs is CNBC Select’s best overall choice. No fees and easy mobile access, it’s the easiest savings account to use to grow your money with no strings attached. Read about all of our best choices.

Social Security (SSI) and / or Disability (SSDI) recipients may also be in one of the early waves, as their banking and contact information is likely up to date. With the first stimulus payment, many people on Social Security (who also had direct deposit information on file with the IRS) received payments within the first week, reports CNET. But given the upcoming holidays, the money is more likely to arrive in early 2021.

If your bank account is not registered with the IRS (which means you received your last tax return by mail and / or your information has since changed), you will likely receive a paper check or card. Visa Prepaid Debit Card, also known as an Economic Impact Payment Card (EIP).

Paper checks and EIP cards can be mailed at a rate of five to seven million per week, reports CNET. In the final round, the IRS prioritized checks based on income, starting with Americans earning less than $ 20,000 a year and gradually moving to those with higher incomes.

If you still haven’t gotten your first dunning check, you can request the Recovery rebate credit when you submit your 2020 taxes next spring. Essentially, the credit will be used to compensate you for the unpaid stimulus money owed to you. Learn more about rebate credit and check the status of your check with the IRS here.

Conclusion: will there be a stimulus check before the new year?

Detroit Gallery offers meals with artist-designed coloring book for kids – Next City http://louthonline.com/detroit-gallery-offers-meals-with-artist-designed-coloring-book-for-kids-next-city/ http://louthonline.com/detroit-gallery-offers-meals-with-artist-designed-coloring-book-for-kids-next-city/#respond Tue, 09 Mar 2021 10:56:49 +0000 http://louthonline.com/detroit-gallery-offers-meals-with-artist-designed-coloring-book-for-kids-next-city/

Detroit is pushing harder. So it’s no surprise that the citizens of this city are turning desperation and fear into opportunity during the coronavirus health crisis.

For a Detroit gallerist and restaurateur, that means spearheading a project that feeds the wombs of out-of-school students with food and their spirits with art.

“The current pandemic has created an unprecedented situation where not only are students left without the academic, social and creative stimulation provided in a school environment, but many are at risk of missing the one meal they receive each day,” said Anthony Curis, co-founder of Library Street Collective, a contemporary art gallery.

Library Street Collective, located in the Grand Circus Park neighborhood of downtown Detroit, offers free weekday lunches to 200 Detroit public school students every day for two weeks. In each meal package provided, students receive a limited edition sketchbook filled with coloring drawings and graphics from 29 emerging and established artists, as well as a set of colored pencils.

“This initiative allows us to meet a basic need for these students, but also a source of creativity and inspiration,” explains Curis.

Contributing artists include Shepard Fairey, Nick cave, Haroshi and artists from Detroit Dabls, Conrad Egyir, Beverly fishman, Carole harris, Tiff Massey, Charles McGee, Allie McGhee and Jason REVOK.

Several artists have roots in the city. One of them is McArthur Binion, an abstract minimalist, who grew up in Detroit. As one of 11 children, he attended Detroit public schools including MacDowell Elementary School and Mumford High School.

Curis says the sketchbook uses art as a catalyst to inspire and empower young people facing difficult times with the COVID-19 crisis. Detroit has been hit particularly hard by the virus, with more than 2,000 confirmed cases and 75 deaths (as of April 1). The US Surgeon General called Detroit a “hotbed” and warned that things could get worse in Motor City.

The title of the sketchbook, WE ALL RISE, was inspired by the new Detroit Public Schools campaign: “Students Rise. We all stand up. The pages of the book not only showcase the efforts of artists, but also provide blank pages for students to create their own art.

Curis says he was overwhelmed by the reaction from the artists he asked to participate and that they were generous with their time and resources. “The artists involved are a mix of collaborators and artists whom we respect enormously,” says Curis. “Our goal was to create a sketchbook with varied influences, ideas and styles. “

One of those artists is Jason REVOK, who, despite being born in Riverside, California, considers Detroit his adopted homeland. As the father of a seven-year-old, he hopes the sketchbook will allow children to “use their imaginations and have fun.”

Curis says REVOK examined the capabilities and limitations of its own custom tools for creating studio work, public projects, and walls. “His work involved in WE ALL RISE is an extension of this thought process,” says Curis.

REVOK created a new work for the project. “I’ve scribbled on the iPad a lot lately, and some of the drawings I’ve done were easy to translate for a kid to color in.”

While the sketchbook is a large-scale project in itself, the meals are no small task either.

Dinners are prepared at the acclaimed Detroit Standby restaurant, with the added benefit of providing work for employees during the restaurant’s forced shutdown. Standby pays for the restaurant staff working on the project. Every day, the restaurant creates a new menu and prepares and conditions the meals. One meal consisted of roast chicken, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms and polenta. Another day, the students were given vegan curry with roasted snow peas, cauliflower, celeriac and seasonings.

Curis is a partner of Standby, which has been nominated for two James Beard Awards, as well as two other establishments nearby: Deluxx Fluxx, a bar, concert hall and arcade hall and The Skip, a cocktail bar and casual restaurant of ‘tiki inspiration. The staff at these two sites are also part of the cooking and packing team for student meals.

Other project partners include the Downtown Boxing Gym, a youth development program in Detroit, and Forgotten Harvest, a rescue and food delivery organization. They manage the distribution of meals and sketchbooks to approximately 200 children per day.

Forgotten Harvest has a well-oiled distribution system focused on mobile deliveries, while Downtown Boxing Gym delivers meals to students along a disembarkation route. The two nonprofits have routes in place for delivering food to students at Detroit public schools during the COVID-19 school shutdown.

Ensuring that underprivileged children have access to food is essential for major cities facing the pandemic, including Detroit. Detroit Public Schools are part of the USDA Community Eligibility Program, a universal meal program where all students in very poor areas receive free breakfast and lunch at school, without the need to sit. to qualify. Many families rely on these meals to keep children healthy; now that the children are at home and many parents are out of work, food resources are scarce for many families.

This knowledge is at the heart of Curis. “As the father of a six-year-old son, there is nothing more upsetting than the thought of a hungry child,” he says. “This initiative provides a fundamental need for DPSCD students while enabling them to imagine and create alongside a roster of revolutionary artists.”

The response from families and students has been positive, says Curis. He hopes to expand the project to reach even more people in need.

For those who want to get into the coloring of patterns, Library Street Collective makes the sketchbook available for purchase. All profits from the sale of the physical book ($ 12 + $ 8 shipping) will be donated to the food distribution program. Proceeds (by donation) from the e-book will benefit Living Arts Detroit, a non-profit organization that provides performing, visual and media arts to young people in Detroit.

Other artists not mentioned above who contributed to the book are: Virgil Abloh, Nina Chanel Abney, Doug Aitken, Daniel Arsham, Amoako Boafo, Torkwase Dyson, Sam Friedman, FriendsWithYou, KAWS, Eddie Martinez, Simphiwe Ndzube, Jordan Nickel, Jose Parla, Julia Wachtel, Austyn Weiner, Wendy White and Tyrrell Winston.

Melinda Clynes is a Detroit-based reporter who writes about children’s issues, working fair food systems, food, travel, beer, and all things Detroit.

The Saudi central bank has extended a loan deferral program to help small businesses cope with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic until the end of the first quarter of next year.

The monetary authority said in a statement on Sunday that the plan impacted more than 77 billion rials ($ 20.5 billion) in loans and that the extension was taken to help support economic growth. Announced in March as one of the kingdom’s first responses to the economic costs of the health emergency, the measures have already been extended and were due to expire in December.

The central bank has been at the forefront of the kingdom’s efforts to protect the economy as the government prepares to cut spending to prevent the budget deficit from widening. Last week, the Saudi central bank’s mandate was broadened to formally include promoting economic growth, in part in recognition of the role it already played.
